Trauma Counselling

At The Whole Family, we provide compassionate, evidence-based trauma counselling for children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced overwhelming, stressful, or frightening events. Our approach is gentle, collaborative, and grounded in safety — recognising that healing happens through connection, predictability, and the right kind of support.

Trauma can affect how we feel, behave, relate to others, and move through the world. For many people, these impacts show up through anxiety, emotional overwhelm, irritability, dissociation, sleep difficulties, physical symptoms, or challenges in relationships. Trauma-informed counselling can help you or your family member make sense of these experiences, reduce distress, and begin to rebuild a sense of stability and control.

Our trauma counsellor works from attachment-based, relational frameworks and tailors each session to the individual’s needs, pace, and goals. We support people who have experienced:

  • Childhood trauma
  • Complex trauma and long-term interpersonal stress
  • Domestic and family violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Accidents, medical trauma, or sudden loss
  • Traumatic grief
  • Parenting stress connected to trauma histories
  • The impact of trauma on behaviour, relationships, and self-worth

We offer both short-term stabilisation and longer-term therapeutic work. Parents and caregivers are included in the process when appropriate, especially when supporting children and young people.

Emergency Appointments

We understand that trauma-related distress can sometimes escalate quickly. When possible, we offer emergency or urgent appointments for existing clients and for new clients needing early support. Please contact our reception team directly to discuss availability.

A Safe Space to Begin Again

Trauma counselling at The Whole Family is not about reliving painful memories. It is about creating a safe, grounded environment where you feel supported, respected, and in control of the pace of your healing.

If you would like to learn more about trauma counselling or discuss whether it may be helpful for you or your child, please get in touch with our team.
