Tayla Squires

Psychologist

The early years can be full of big feelings, rapid development, and sometimes challenges that leave parents wondering how best to support their child.

Tayla is an AHPRA-registered Psychologist who works primarily with young children and their families, with a particular passion for supporting children aged 3–8 years. She understands that when young children are struggling with emotions, behaviour, or adjustment, it can feel overwhelming for parents, and that early support can make a meaningful difference.

Tayla brings a warm, calm, and collaborative presence to her work. She is known for creating a therapeutic space where children feel safe, understood, and able to express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. At the same time, she works closely with parents, helping them better understand their child’s emotional world and equipping them with practical strategies to support their child at home.

My professional journey

Before joining The Whole Family, I worked regionally in the Kimberley, Western Australia, supporting children and families across diverse communities and complex systems. That experience shaped my adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and my commitment to providing care that truly meets people where they are.

In my work, I focus on emotional wellbeing, relationships, attachment, and self-esteem. I believe every child and family has a unique story, and I aim to work in a way that honours each individual’s strengths, experiences and needs.

I have much experience in supporting neurodivergent children and young people. I provide developmentally attuned psychological support, behavioural guidance, and parent consultation, always working from a neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed perspective.

My practice draws on a range of evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT)

  • Attachment-based and family-systems frameworks

I tailor my approach to each child and family I work with, with the goal of helping young people build insight, confidence, and resilience, while supporting families to create lasting and meaningful change.
